The Start

SDC10179This is the story of our boy Hobo.

His momma dog, Sally had his litter of puppies on January 6, 2009 ( my junior year in high school).  It was her first litter and her only one so far. She went into labor and I could tell things were not normal she was very anxious, we called the vet and they suggested we bring her in. She had the first two puppies in the back office of the hospital an hour or so later. We took more x-rays and saw the last puppy was moving in the wrong direction! Shortly after the x-ray Sally passed the third placenta and no puppy. The vet made the call to do a C-Section and get the puppy out, she informed us that it would most likely not be alive but to keep Sally safe it was the best move.

During surgery we heard loud cries of “It’s ALIVE!!” her amazing vet tech( who later became one of my best friends) got to working on the puppy and we could hear him cry in just a few short minutes! This puppy had lived  with no protection, he proved us all wrong and although he was green in color he was strong! The vet said he was green due to the placenta passing before him, it had stained his hair, he stayed that color for 3 weeks! This incredible, odd deifying, strong willed puppy was my Hobo, I just didn’t realize it at the time that he would be so important in my life.

Sally did awesome as a first time mom! We set up their box in my room so she could sleep in either my bed or with the babies. Although she and I didn’t get much sleep the first few nights between the two of us getting up to check on them.  Now I always knew I was going to be keeping a puppy but I thought for sure it would be the only girl of the three. Turns out that little green one who was determined to be around us would be it.  Alex and I had only been dating around 9 mos or so but somehow Hobo must of known it would be lots longer because he also won Alex over in just a few days. I would find Alex asleep with the puppy on his chest or he would be walking around the house with him cuddled up in his arms.

He got the name Hobo because as I mentioned I didn’t think he would be the one staying with us at first. He was green and he loved to sleep under the newspaper so I had nick named him the hobo puppy. The time came to choose between the puppies, I knew I had made up my mind that Hobo would be it, I just felt a connection that I had only felt with on other dog before, Sally. I knew he was ours. So did she.

Hobo had spent the first 3 years of his life living part time with me and part time with Alex up until about a year ago when we moved in together. The four of us finally all under one roof. We have been so blessed to have these two amazing puppies in our lives, they truly are the best dogs in the world.  They are our kids, we would do anything in the world for them.

We are a very busy family, we ride horses and quads, our building a race car, work full time and attend school, our puppies are with us every  step of the way.
